Web 2.0 Audio and Podcasts

Audio and Podcasts are right up there with video when it comes to increasing your guest’s enjoyment levels.  There are times where video is appropriate and times where audio is what your visitors and customers will seek.

Before we dive into how you can put this element of Web 2.0 to work for you, it’s helpful to understand what a “Podcast” is.  Since you’ve learned what an RSS feed is, it won’t be so hard to connect the dots.  Basically, a Podcast is online audio content that is delivered via an RSS feed.  This is done just like your written blog content with its feed.

It is similar to the idea of having your own radio show, but it gives you and your guests many more options.  You can include many different forms of content and programming that you cannot do with radio.  Also, your listeners can decide when and where they want to listen.  This makes things convenient for them and for you.

Your listeners will need to listen to your content via an RSS feed that they have subscribed to.  They need a reader that supports the feed and file format.  The can even add the files to their iPod or MP3 player.  iTunes, made by Apple, is an easy way for them to listen to your Podcast right on their computer.

If you’re struggling to see how or where you could use a Podcast, tomorrow  I will give you several options to consider.
