Affiliate Marketing: Developing a Worthy Opt-in Offer

Giving up an email address isn’t something most people do willingly these days.  In the old days, people freely gave their email address to any company that asked.  When the Internet was new, people didn’t really know any better.

But as the spam problem got worse and worse, people began to realize that they couldn’t just give their email address out to just anyone.  They began to realize that a lot of companies would sell their email address, and they’d end up with 2,000 spam emails in their inbox every day.

Now that it’s harder to get people to part with their email addresses, you have to provide a very good incentive to get subscribers.  Your offer should actually be something people might be willing to pay for.

Many years ago, you could simply say, “Enter your email address for free weight loss information.”  This would usually get you plenty of subscribers.  These days you have to have a very enticing offer to have a chance at getting a good response.

As an affiliate, you may not have anything to offer at first, so you’ll need to develop something.  You’ll need to use a PLR product, or create your own special report that complements your affiliate offers.

Remember, you need to provide good value, but you can’t give away too much for free.  If you give away too much, you may find your subscribers feel like they don’t need anything else.  If you don’t give away enough, you’ll undoubtedly have trouble getting many people to sign up to your list.

When you’re preparing your offer, try thinking about your target subscriber.  Give them something you believe they would willingly pay for.  It doesn’t have to be worth $97, but maybe it could be something they might pay $5 or $10 for.

If they believe they’re getting something valuable for free, it will make them much more willing to sign up.  If they feel the value of your freebie is so low they wouldn’t be willing to pay for it, then they probably won’t feel like it’s valuable enough to give their email away for, either.

Once you believe you have a worthy product to give away, you need to package it in an enticing way.  Just because it’s a freebie doesn’t mean you don’t need a slick looking cover and a nice looking design that houses a killer sales letter.  Make this freebie look like a product they’d be willing to pay for and your opt in rate will soar.
